Wrestling fans … Welcome to Iowa City where curiosity is cultivated and thoughtfulness is a way of life! The Iowa City area and the University of Iowa have hosted their fair share of premier wrestling events recently including: 2012 US Olympic Trials, 2016 US Olympic Trials and 2016 B1G Tournament.
Iowa City is home to the most dedicated wrestling fans in the world as the University of Iowa has ranked number 1 in NCAA dual attendance for 11 straight years and counting.
Iowa City is also home to wrestling legend, Dan Gable. As a wrestler, Gable was a 2-time NCAA Champion, 1971 World Champion, and 1972 Olympic Gold Medalist – famously without surrendering a single point. As a coach, Gable became University of Iowa’s winningest coach while winning 15 NCAA team titles and 25 consecutive Big Ten championships. Today, Gable is very involved in the community, the University of Iowa wrestling program, and a great advocate world-wide for the sport.

Consistently home to the highest attended collegiate and freestyle wrestling events in the world, it holds the record for one of the largest ever wrestling crowds. On November 14, 2015 well over 42,000 wrestling fans watched the Iowa Hawkeyes defeat the Oklahoma State Cowboys inside legendary Kinnick Stadium.
